Kanata splits cleanly for solar purposes. Kanata Lakes, Morgan's Grant, Bridlewood and most of Stittsville are 1990s and later, with the same advantages as Barrhaven: simple roofs, known framing, adequate services. Beaverbrook and the older Katimavik streets date from the late 1960s and 1970s and bring three complications, namely older framing that has to be measured rather than read off a drawing, services that are sometimes still 100 amp, and mature tree cover.
The tree cover is the real Kanata issue. The 1970s neighbourhoods were planted deliberately and those trees are now fifty years old and taller than the houses. A shading survey matters far more here than in an open newer subdivision, and the answer for some Beaverbrook roofs is honestly that solar does not suit them. An installer who will tell you that is one worth talking to.
Stittsville and the western edge also run into a practical point about distributors. Not every property at the rural margin of the city is billed by Hydro Ottawa, and the connection process differs between distributors, so check whose name is on your bill before assuming which application you are filing.
